Upcoming Solo Exhibition 24 June – 2 July
I am inspired from the crafts left by craftsmen of the past. The beauty of such crafts can seen very closely in our daily lives and touches our soul deeply. Similar beauty can be also found in many different forms : clothing, art, designs, etc. They have one thing in common: they are understated and there is a great balance and proportions in harmony with theirs surroundings/lifestyle.
With the above in mind, I considered and researched works that fit the Australian environment. I incorporated the traditional Korean Moon Jar shape with the colors of Australia; the white clouds, the white sands, and the white colors of the Australian Moon. I wanted to blend my Korean heritage and the spirit of the moon jars through a perspective of the variations of what I considered the Australian whites.
I welcome you to explore my latest exhibition that I have titled ‘a chromophoric experience’. The exhibition captures the variety of different whites that are found in our surroundings on moon jars that are simple and humble in its shape and stance. I wish and hope that the viewers would find comfort and gentle stimulation from my work.

“In my work, I start with the beauty created by Korean artists in the past. In pottery, I focus on the inlay techniques of celadon porcelain, the decorative techniques of Bhuncheong porcelain, and the shapes of the white porcelain. In addition, I want to express the the beauty from the curves and decorative techniques found in hanok (traditional Korean houses) and other types of artisanal tools and objects in the past. I would like to to introduce various Korean traditional artisanal beauty through my ceramics”.
